Renoir Heist in France: Two Paintings Stolen, Two Recovered
Two Renoir paintings worth €9 million each were stolen from the Renoir Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France. Two other works were recovered in the museum gardens after thieves fled, while two paintings—Portrait of Madame Colonna Romano (1910) and Jeune fille au puits (1886)—remain missing. The recovered pieces are Portrait of Madame Pichon (1895) and Coco Lisant (1905). The incident has renewed concerns about art security and prompted calls for greater government support to protect cultural heritage.
