Schwartzel Wins Costly Southwest Florida GOP Primary for CD 19
Jim Schwartzel captured the Republican nomination in Florida’s 19th Congressional District after a heated, heavily funded primary against Catalina Lauf, leading 29% to 22% as most precincts reported. Lauf benefited from a Trump endorsement but couldn’t close the gap. The race featured outsized spending by several candidates, with Schwartzel’s team noting the district’s GOP lean (about 64% voted for Trump in 2024). Schwartzel now advances to the general against Democrat Victor Arias in a contest regarded as favorable to Republicans.
