"Florida Keys Unveil Newly Discovered 'Margarita Snails' Named After Jimmy Buffett Song"
A newly discovered species of sea snail found in the Florida Reef has been named Cayo margarita as a tribute to the Jimmy Buffett song "Margaritaville." The bright yellow worm snail, which forms a tubular shell around itself, was first spotted by biologist Rüdiger Bieler while scuba diving. The discovery of Cayo margarita contributes to a better understanding of biodiversity within coral reefs and highlights the need to protect threatened coral reefs. The snail's bright color and unique feeding and defense mechanisms have intrigued researchers. The study also describes three other snails placed in a new genus named Cayo.
