Arrest Made in Channel Crossing Tragedy That Claimed Four Lives
A 27-year-old Sudanese man was arrested at the Manston processing centre in Kent on suspicion of endangering life after four people—two men and two women—died while trying to board a small boat to cross the English Channel near Calais. Thirty-eight people were returned to the French shore while 74 continued to the UK; investigators are interviewing those who made the journey as French prosecutors probe the boat’s launch, with the NCA assisting. Migration Minister Mike Tapp called every death a tragedy and said the Border Security Act strengthens powers to disrupt smuggling networks.
