Daycare in World Trade Center Plaza Evacuated 28 Children on 9/11
On September 11, 2001, the Children's Discovery Center daycare in Building 5 of the World Trade Center was in the middle of morning drop-off when Flight 11 hit the north tower. Teachers Tara Jones and Onica Sarjeant, along with other staff, quickly evacuated the 28 children in their care. Despite severe structural damage and falling debris, all children and parents survived. The teachers led the children to safety, with Jones heading north to St. Clare's Hospital and Sarjeant heading southeast before also finding refuge in a church. This story, uncovered for a documentary by Retro Report, highlights the bravery of the daycare staff in saving the children's lives.
