Disney unveiled a surprise theatrical short, Lilo & Scratch, at the Annecy festival, reuniting Stitch with Lilo and featuring Chris Sanders returning as Stitch and Maia Kealoha voicing Lilo; the new short will run in front of Hexed, which is slated for a November 25 release.
Lilo & Stitch directors Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois shared an original image of Stitch crying with Scrump and Pudge to honor late Lilo voice actress Daveigh Chase, who died at 35 from meningitis leading to sepsis; Chase also voiced Chihiro in Spirited Away and appeared as Samara in The Ring. A GoFundMe set up by her boyfriend for burial costs was disputed by her former manager, who said Chase’s estate has funds and urged people not to donate.
Chris Sanders, the writer and director of the original Lilo & Stitch, is in final negotiations to voice the character of Stitch in Disney's live-action remake. Tia Carrere, who originally voiced Nani, will play the newly-created Mrs. Kekoa, while Amy Hill will star as a new character named Tūtū. The remake will be directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and is intended to be a major release on Disney+. Production is officially underway in Hawaii.
