Anne Carson Wins 2026 Nobel Prize for Literature, Highlighting Her Radical Reimagining of Classical Forms
Canadian poet and classicist Anne Carson has been awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature. The Swedish Academy recognized her for a 'bold and inventive' body of work that fuses ancient Greek and Roman themes with modern genres, including verse novels, essays, and translations. Carson, 76, was surprised by the announcement while in Iceland and will receive 12 million Swedish kronor. She is the 19th woman to win the prize.
