Europe: The Fastest-Warming Continent on the Planet
Europe has been dubbed the fastest-warming continent in the world, with temperatures rising twice as much as the global average since the 1980s, according to a new report by Copernicus and the World Meteorological Organization. The year 2022 saw record-breaking temperatures, droughts, wildfires, and sea surface temperatures reaching new highs, resulting in 16,365 reported fatalities due to heat stress. However, the report also noted a "hopeful future" for renewable energy, which generated more electricity on the continent than polluting fossil gas for the first time in 2022.
