"US Sets New Standard of Nothingness in Recent Unveiling"

The US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has developed a new method to accurately measure extremely low gas pressures within a confined space, creating a new kind of vacuum sensor called the cold-atom vacuum standard (CAVS). By connecting a magnetic trap loaded with metallic atoms to a vacuum chamber, researchers were able to consistently measure pressures within the ultra-high vacuum range. The CAVS sensor is simpler and more reliable than previous methods, providing industries and researchers with a new way to measure and maintain ultra-high vacuum conditions.
