
Quake Traps Shoppers as Kumamoto Mall Collapses in 7.1 Quake
A 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Japan's Kumamoto region, causing widespread damage, power outages and transport disruptions. In Kumamoto City, a shopping mall partly collapsed and several people were feared trapped, with reports of injuries and fires; rail service suspensions and flight delays followed. More than 150,000 people were instructed to evacuate to shelters as officials warned of aftershocks and landslide risk in the coming days.
