90–119 minutes of weekly strength training tied to longer life, study finds

An analysis of 147,374 health professionals across three cohorts shows that 90–119 minutes per week of strength training is linked to a 13% lower all-cause mortality over up to 30 years, with no additional benefit above 120 minutes. Those who combined strength training with aerobic activity saw the greatest gains, especially at 30–44 MET-hours per week of aerobic activity plus 60–119 minutes of strength training, corresponding to about a 45% lower risk of death. While aerobic exercise generally offers larger benefits and the study is observational with self-reported data, the findings support including both strength and aerobic training for longevity.
