The European Space Agency has received strong interest from industry for its LEO Cargo Return Service program, which aims to develop commercial cargo vehicles for the International Space Station by 2028. The agency expects to select up to three companies for initial contracts worth 75 million euros to begin design work on the vehicles, with a long-term goal of having them in service by 2028. Financing and industry participation are key challenges, but companies like The Exploration Company and ArianeGroup are already considering offering their concepts for the program. The program is seen as a step towards developing a crew vehicle, with a focus on not only transporting cargo to the space station but also returning cargo to Earth.
