US to Cut Africa Visa Footprint to 20 Hubs, Shutting 30 Embassies
The US State Department will shrink Africa’s visa operations from about 50 sites to 20 hubs, closing 30 embassies/consulates in Africa by June. The remaining hubs include cities such as Abidjan, Accra, Addis Ababa, Cape Town, Dakar, Nairobi, Lagos, Kinshasa, and more. Applicants from many African nations will need to apply at one of the 20 hubs or travel to another country, likely increasing costs and processing times. The move accompanies broader visa and green-card policy changes; US citizens can still renew passports and access emergency consular services.
