GitHub adds 4M cores and 160 PB storage to handle AI-driven commit surge
GitHub reported 7.4 billion commits in September 2026, a fivefold increase over last year, driven by AI agents. To prevent outages, the platform added 4 million CPU cores, 160 PB of storage, and 50 Tb/s of network capacity. Simultaneously, GitHub launched Copilot Fusion, a multi-model orchestration system that routes tasks to optimize cost and speed, while making all Copilot features available to Enterprise users without separate subscriptions.
