Claude AI helps physicists crack a decade-old jamming puzzle
Nobel laureate Giorgio Parisi and Francesco Zamponi used Anthropic's Claude AI to finally prove why a + b = 1 in the critical exponents of jamming. Claude reproduced the 2014 numerical results and, in 40 prompts, produced a publishable analytical solution, published in the Journal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment (2026). The breakthrough showcases AI's potential to provide fresh mathematical insight in theoretical physics, while also underscoring that human guidance remains essential in steering and validating the AI's output.
