Subaru recalls 541,000 SUVs over incorrect weight-label
Subaru of America is recalling more than 541,000 Crosstrek, Forester and Ascent SUVs in the U.S. because the certification label incorrectly states their GAWR (gross axle weight rating). The inaccuracy could lead to an overloaded vehicle, though Subaru reports no crashes or injuries to date. No mechanical repair is required; owners will receive a corrected certification label to place over the faulty one, with dealers able to apply it for free. The recall covers certain 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid, 2025-2026 Forester and Forester Hybrid, and 2019-2026 Ascent models. Owner notices go out in late August, and further letters will follow when the remedy is available. Owners can check eligibility via NHTSA or Subaru’s recall lookup tools.
