"Unleashing Innovation: Harnessing Low-Tech Methods for High-Tech Materials"

Researchers at AMOLF have developed a simple and cost-effective method to create materials with a regular pattern of crystalline bands. By gradually dipping a gel into a liquid instead of letting the liquid diffuse into the gel, they can control the width and spacing of the bands. This method, called R-DIP, has potential applications in optics, electronics, and sensors. The researchers aim to achieve even smaller band distances and explore chemical modifications to make the materials more suitable for various applications.
