Invasive South American mosquito species thriving in Florida.

Hillsborough County's Mosquito Management Program is monitoring the presence of a newly-discovered mosquito species, Culex lactator, that has been found in three Florida counties but not yet in Tampa Bay. The mosquito species is native to Central and Southern America, and not much is known about it, including whether it transmits diseases or is just a nuisance mosquito. The county is monitoring the situation and will treat it like any other mosquito species if found in Tampa.
