Controlling Antiferromagnetic Vortices with Electricity: New Research Findings
Researchers from the University of Nottingham have demonstrated the electrical creation and control of magnetic vortices in an antiferromagnet, using magnetic imaging techniques to map their structure and demonstrate their movement due to alternating electrical pulses. The discovery could increase the data storage capacity and speed of next-generation devices, and antiferromagnets have the potential to out-compete other forms of memory, leading to a redesign of computing architecture, huge speed increases, and energy savings.
