ESPN to Exclusively Stream CW Sports under New Content Pact

Under a new pact, ESPN will stream roughly 800 hours of CW Sports programming—covering college football and basketball, pro bull riding, WWE, NASCAR, PBA bowling and more—on ESPN's direct-to-consumer service, while The CW handles ad sales; the CW streams will be exclusive to ESPN’s platform and won’t appear on ESPN’s linear channels. The deal leverages CW access to ACC, Mountain West and Pac-12 games plus WWE content, filling gaps in ESPN’s slate and signaling ongoing bundling of sports content. Separately, The CW and Roku announced a Fall 2026 deal to bring CW programming to The Roku Channel for next-day streaming.

The CW Faces Layoffs, Scripted Programming Takes a Hit

The CW Network is undergoing significant layoffs, with around 35 employees affected, particularly in the scripted PR department. This move follows Nexstar Media's acquisition of a 75% stake in the network and is part of a strategy to shift focus from high-end scripted dramas to sports and unscripted programming, aiming for profitability by 2025. The layoffs coincide with a leadership change, as Dennis Miller steps down and Brad Schwartz takes over as President of Entertainment. Nexstar reported a 22% increase in ad sales and a reduction in operating losses and programming costs.

LIV Golf's Tucson Event Struggles with Ratings and Rattlesnakes.

LIV Golf's TV ratings continue to decline with a 0.14 rating in the key 18-49 demographic across 33 markets during its second event in Tucson, Arizona. This is worse than their TV debut in Mexico just three weeks prior. The league's Mayakoba event also scored poorly in Saturday's overnight ratings. In comparison, the PGA Tour's Honda Classic drew in 1.61 and 2.38 million total viewers on NBC. Fireballs FC, captained by Sergio Garcia, was leading the team competition in Tucson late Sunday.
