Braves Clinch Playoff Berth as 2026 Postseason Bracket Takes Shape

Braves clinched a 2026 playoff berth with a 6-2 win over the Astros, signaling a rebound from last year’s injury-plagued season and setting the stage for the postseason bracket. Chris Sale anchors Atlanta’s rotation with Cy Young–caliber form (on pace for a 2.18 ERA at 37) and Drake Baldwin’s breakout year helped offset earlier injuries, while Acuña Jr. and Albies will need to contribute in October as the wild-card round starts Sept. 29 and division series begin Oct. 3.

Ohtani's Cy Young dream paused as Dodgers' ace battles knee trouble

Dodgers two‑way superstar Shohei Ohtani entered 2026 healthy and aiming to win a Cy Young, but persistent left knee discomfort has sidelined him from his next start and the timeline for a return is not defined. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the issue would take time to resolve, effectively pausing his pursuit of pitching glory for now even as he remains in the lineup as a DH and leadoff hitter. The six‑man rotation and limited pitching appearances make the Cy Young unlikely this season, though Ohtani already logged impressive numbers (about a 1.79 ERA with 95 strikeouts in 85 2/3 innings) before the injury and is staying loose with tosses and mechanics while he works toward a return.

Ohtani’s Pitching Renaissance Prompts Dodgers to Pace His Power

Ohtani is thriving as a pitcher for the Dodgers, turning in another seven innings with eight strikeouts as the team safeguards his workload by giving him plate‑appearance “breathers.” Through six starts he sits with a 0.97 ERA, six quality starts, and a .160 opponent average, aided by improved fastball command and a smoother delivery after elbow/shoulder adjustments, hinting at a Cy Young‑caliber season even as his hitting takes a backseat for now.

Yamamoto’s Mission: Pitching His Way to Baseball’s Best

Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto is pushing toward being viewed as baseball’s best, turning in six-plus innings to move to 2-1 with a 2.50 ERA while aiming to finish more seventh innings and reach 200 innings this season. He emphasizes step-by-step progress, aided by a grueling off-season program under trainer Osamu Yada, and remains motivated by Shohei Ohtani’s praise but focused on steady improvement.

Skubal’s $32M arbitration win reshapes Tigers’ rotation and pay

Tarik Skubal won the largest arbitration award in MLB history, earning $32 million for 2026 after back-to-back Cy Young–caliber seasons, placing him in a record-setting stride for arb bids. Detroit still gets a formidable one-two in Skubal and Framber Valdez (three-year, $115 million) as they push toward a payroll near or over $200 million and toward the luxury tax. The ruling could influence future arb outcomes for elite pitchers and impact Skubal’s looming free-agent talks, with projections suggesting a multi-year deal around $400 million.
