
Nathalie Baye, Esteemed French Actress, Dies at 77
Nathalie Baye, the acclaimed French actress known for Day for Night and later in Catch Me If You Can and Downton Abbey: A New Era, died in Paris at age 77 after complications from Lewy body dementia, her family said. Born in Normandy in 1948 and trained at the Conservatoire, she built a five‑decade career that earned César Awards and included the likes of The Return of Martin Guerre and Venus Beauty Institute; she also appeared in the U.S. production And the Band Played On and on the French series Call My Agent! with her daughter Laura Smet. She is survived by Smet and other family.
