MLB caps contract lengths and ends deferrals in new CBA bid
MLB's latest proposal to the MLBPA would cap max contract lengths at five years for free-agent switches and six years for re-signings, set a first-year cap at 15% of the cap, and specify a 2027 max of five years for deals totaling up to $202 million. It also calls for eliminating deferrals and the qualifying offer, with five-year free-agent eligibility for players who would have turned 30; the MLBPA is expected to respond soon.
