Dragon Quest XII has been restarted from scratch, renamed Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams, and revealed in a teaser trailer. The original version, Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate, was scrapped after a team reshuffle as developers chose to take the game in a different direction. Akira Toriyama’s character art and Koichi Sugiyama’s music will remain, but there is no release window yet and the launch still seems far off.
Square Enix restarted Dragon Quest 12 after development troubles and renamed it Dragon Quest 12: Beyond Dreams; a brief PS5 gameplay trailer was shown, but the game is still years away with a brighter, more traditional direction and a protagonist who experiences visions, per series creator Horii.
