Google Opens SynthID Detector to Public, but Experts Warn It Is Not a Universal AI Checker
Google has made its SynthID Detector publicly available at synthid.com, allowing users to check images, video, and audio for invisible watermarks from Google, OpenAI, NVIDIA, and Kakao. The tool requires a Google, OpenAI, or Apple account and is free to use. While it can identify content created or edited by partner AI tools, it cannot detect all AI-generated media, as many companies use different watermarking standards or none at all. A negative result does not confirm content is human-made, and the tool does not distinguish between fully generated and merely edited media.
