Former West Virginia men's basketball coach Bob Huggins has entered a 12-month diversion program to resolve a drunken driving arrest. Huggins resigned from his position after being arrested for driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit. He will undergo a one-year probation period, which can be completed in six months if he meets all conditions, including alcohol treatment. Huggins was assessed court costs and fees, had his driver's license suspended, and faced disciplinary actions from the university.
Actor Pete Davidson has been ordered by a Los Angeles County Superior judge to complete an 18-month diversion program for a reckless driving charge related to a car crash earlier this year. As part of the program, Davidson must complete 50 hours of community service, 12 hours of traffic school, and a Hospital and Morgue program or its New York equivalent. He must also pay restitution and obey all laws. Davidson's representative has not yet commented on the matter.
The misdemeanor assault charge against Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey has been dismissed after he completed a diversion program. Winfrey was accused of causing bodily injury to a woman he was dating in April. The Browns had been monitoring his legal situation and had not yet decided whether to release him. Winfrey had some maturity issues last season and missed time due to a concussion from a scooter accident.
The gun used by the East High shooting suspect to shoot himself was a ghost gun with no serial numbers. The 17-year-old had previously possessed a ghost rifle, a silencer, and a large capacity magazine, for which he was put on an 18-month diversion program. However, his diversion was revoked in November 2022, and he was sentenced to 12 months probation. The suspect was on probation when he shot two administrators at Denver East High School. Diversion is an effort to help teens turn their lives around early in the legal system and offers intervention services. Now detectives will investigate how the suspect obtained his ghost gun.
