Capitals Enter 2026 Draft with Five Picks, Eyeing a Top-Six Forward
The 2026 NHL Draft takes place June 26–27 in Buffalo. Washington Capitals will have five selections thanks to trades for Jakob Chychrun, Justin Sourdif and David Kampf, while giving up picks to Florida, Ottawa and Vancouver. They own two first-rounders (16th and 18th) after receiving an extra pick from Anaheim for John Carlson, plus picks in the 4th, 5th and 7th rounds. Vegas forfeited a second-round pick, and Capitals GM Chris Patrick has said the club is willing to move draft capital to land a top-six forward.
