Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen, 34, was arrested in Marion County on misdemeanor drunken-driving charges (operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and endangering person) and is being held at the local arrestee processing center. Allen had signed a one-year deal with the Colts on Aug. 19 and recorded one catch for 24 yards in a preseason loss to Detroit; the Colts said they’re gathering more information.
Missouri Governor Mike Parson has commuted the prison sentence for former Kansas City Chiefs coach Britt Reid, who seriously injured a 5-year-old girl in a drunken-driving wreck in February 2021. Reid, son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, had been sentenced to three years in prison but will now be under house arrest until October 2025 and must meet additional probation conditions. The crash occurred when Reid was driving over the speed limit and had a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit, resulting in a traumatic brain injury for the young girl and injuries to others.
Freshman state Rep. Brion Curran, a Democrat, has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of drunken driving after her blood alcohol level was found to be double the legal limit. Prior to her arrest, Chisago County received two calls reporting her erratic driving behavior.
Texas has implemented a new law, known as Bentley's Law, which requires drunken drivers who kill a child's parent or guardian in a crash to pay child support. The law states that offenders are liable until the child turns 18 or finishes high school. The amount of child support is determined based on factors such as the child's educational and medical needs, reasonable child care costs, and the child's standard of living. Those unable to make payments due to incarceration may be eligible for a payment plan.
State Rep. Matt Grossell, a Republican from Minnesota, has agreed to plead guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving after being cited with a blood alcohol level of 0.15%. The plea agreement includes a 90-day suspended jail sentence and two years' unsupervised probation.
Mahbub Ali, a 26-year-old Queens resident, has been charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, assault, and driving while intoxicated after he drove his car onto a sidewalk in Manhattan, killing a 23-year-old pedestrian and injuring at least four others. Ali was apparently speeding when he hit the pedestrians and a parked van. The driver was taken into custody at the scene and appeared to be crying as he was handcuffed.
UFC veteran Tony Ferguson was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving following a multi-vehicle crash in Hollywood. The crash occurred around 2 a.m. PT and Ferguson refused to take part in a field sobriety test. He is facing a misdemeanor charge.
