
Royal finances reveal £552m annual cost with detailed cost breakdown
A Royal finances report shows a total public-cost bill of about £552.6m for 2025-26, funded largely by a £132.1m Sovereign Grant and £117.2m official expenditure, with major outlays on maintenance (£67.5m), official travel (£5.1m), and 177 helicopter journeys (£733k). The Sovereign Grant is expected to rise to £99.9m in 2027-28 due to Crown Estate profits. Private incomes are also highlighted: the King’s £12.9m Lancaster private income and the Prince of Wales’s £21.6m Cornwall private income; personal tax includes the King’s £12.9m and William’s £7.76m. The report notes 708 engagements in 2024-25 and 12% of Buckingham Palace staff from minority backgrounds.
