Duke-NUS Medical School has developed a stem cell therapy for heart failure that shows promise in repairing damaged heart tissue and improving heart function. The therapy involves transplanting pluripotent stem cells grown in the lab into a damaged heart, where they can differentiate into various types of heart cells and promote the regeneration of healthy tissue. Preclinical trials have demonstrated rapid engraftment, growth of new heart tissue, and an increase in functional development. The procedure also reduces the risk of complications like arrhythmias and tumor formation. The technology has been licensed to a Swedish biotech startup for further development.
