Samsung and Google have detailed Eclipsa Audio, an open, royalty-free spatial audio system built on the IAMF spec that supports 3D positioning and adapts to devices from soundbars to TVs (5.1.2/7.1.4). It falls back to stereo on unsupported gear and is being tested via Samsung TV Plus with live concerts, with plans to expand to sports, movies, and more granular audio controls such as boosting vocals or reducing crowd noise.
LG will add support for Samsung's Eclipsa Audio — a Dolby Atmos rival developed with Google — to its 2026 TV lineup, with a free update bringing the format to select 2025 models (G5, C5, CS5, QNED9M). Eclipsa Audio delivers spatial sound through built‑in speakers or compatible soundbars and carries no licensing fees. LG confirms HDR10+ and Dolby Vision 2 won’t be added, sticking with its Dolby Vision focus for now. The move signals broader, cross‑brand interest in Eclipsa, potentially reaching Netflix/Amazon and Fire TV ecosystems in the future.
LG’s 2026 TV lineup (including C6, G6 and W6 OLEDs plus RGB Mini LED models) will support Eclipsa Audio, Samsung and Google’s open-source 3D‑audio format, as an Atmos rival. Playback works through the TV’s built-in speakers or HDMI eARC devices, and the format is currently not supported by streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, or Apple TV+—it's aimed at YouTube content creators.
