Blue Origin Identifies Cause of Rocket Launch Failure
Blue Origin has determined that the structural fatigue failure of the nozzle on the booster's single BE-3PM engine caused the thrust misalignment that triggered the capsule's emergency escape system during the NS-23 New Shepard rocket launch failure in September 2022. The company is taking steps to prevent the problem from happening again, including changing the design of the engine's combustion chamber and adjusting some of its operating parameters. Blue Origin plans to fly again soon, with the return-to-flight mission lofting the science payloads from NS-23.
