NHTSA expands GM engine recall to 2025–2026 models, affecting nearly 1 million vehicles

NHTSA has widened the GM engine recall probe to include 2025 and 2026 model years, increasing the potentially affected U.S. vehicles to 997,743 across eight models (Silverado 1500, Tahoe, Suburban, Sierra 1500, Yukon/Yukon XL, Escalade and Escalade ESV). The L87 6.2L V-8 engine’s reported defects in connecting rods/crankshaft could cause engine failure, prompting GM to recall 597,630 vehicles from 2021–2024. The recall remedies include an oil viscosity change (with a new cap and filter) or engine replacement if diagnosed as necessary; a 10-year or 150,000-mile coverage applies. Despite remedies, NHTSA reports post-remedy complaints (499 total; 473 oil-changes, 26 engine replacements; plus 191 post-production failures) and GM has logged 6,953 post-remedy complaints as investigations continue.

Airlines Grapple with Engine Recall, Grounding Planes and Causing Flight Cancellations

Major airlines, including Spirit, JetBlue, Hawaiian Airlines, and Wizz Air, are grappling with flight cancellations and grounded planes after aerospace company Pratt & Whitney issued a recall on thousands of engines used to power A320neo Airbus jets. The recall, affecting around 1,200 engines, is due to contaminants found in the metal used to build the machines and could take up to two months for inspections. This is likely to impact the remainder of the summer travel season and potentially the holiday travel window. Airlines are facing revenue slumps and schedule changes as they scramble for parts and deal with maintenance issues.
