Voyager 1's Mysterious Transmission Troubles Puzzle NASA Engineers
NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft has ceased transmitting engineering and science data to Earth due to an issue with its Flight Data System (FDS) not communicating correctly with the Telemetry Modulation Unit (TMU). Instead of useful data, the TMU is transmitting a repeating pattern of ones and zeroes. Engineers are facing challenges in troubleshooting the problem due to the age of the spacecraft and the time it takes to communicate with it. NASA estimates that it will take several weeks to devise a new plan to address the issue.
