Phononic Crystals Reveal Topology at Phase Boundaries
Researchers have experimentally observed 'critical topology,' demonstrating that topological properties persist at phase transitions where energy gaps close. Using engineered phononic crystals, the team measured entanglement spectra in one and two dimensions, proving that classical acoustic systems can replicate quantum critical behavior and revealing a hierarchical structure of topological phases.
