Ancient flame endures as fire razes Japan's Reikado Hall
A fire on Miyajima Island gutted Reikado Hall, a centuries-old Shingon Buddhist site home to a 1,200-year-old eternal flame linked to Kukai and Hiroshima’s Flame of Peace. The flame was moved to a safe location before the hall collapsed; no one was injured, and Daisho-in temple plans to rebuild while investigators probe the blaze.
