Final Fantasy XIV is set to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 4, with a massive 117.2 GB install and the game’s popular free trial. The Switch 2 version requires its own monthly sub (even on the same account), though players paying for two subs can get a 50% discount on the Switch 2 sub. The announcement came alongside an extended Evercold teaser trailer and other updates, including a new Bastion tank class, a data center revamp for better connectivity, and crossovers with the FF7 Remake and Evangelion, revealed at Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin.

FFXIV Lands on Switch 2 With August Release, FF7 Remake Crossover, and Evercold Deep-Dive

At the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Berlin, Square Enix announced the Nintendo Switch 2 release date for FFXIV (August 4, 2026) with Starter ($19.99), Complete ($59.99; $41.99 with pre-orders), and Collectors’ Edition ($139.99; $97.99 with pre-orders) plus Dawntrail pricing, and said pre-orders start today on Nintendo eShop with about a one-month free sub. The company also revealed Evercold, the sixth expansion launching January 2027, introducing the Bastion tank, new areas Naglfar, Hringhorni, and Fargarth, Auto Content Balancing, expanded character customization, and Character Action Skins; an Evangelion: Ghosts of Desire teaser and Mahiro Maeda joining the project; and a Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy crossover raid series Beyond the Lifestream. Additional updates include a Switch 2 version, a new chocobo system overhaul in Patch 8.1, a Keybound Brawler typing mini-game, and same-region matching expansion (Patch 7.5x), plus an Evercold Collector’s Bundle with physical items and a digital Collector’s Edition (Crystal Skyltborg, Vallhallar Odin, Entreat Crystal). Evercold is set for January 2027, with more details to come.

Final Fantasy XIV Online is arriving on Nintendo Switch 2 this August, kicking off with a one-month free early access period; after that you’ll need a standalone Switch 2 subscription (existing players get 50% off and can keep their characters).
