Cable-Linked Drones Signal a New Phase in Hezbollah’s Warfare
Hezbollah is reported to be using fibre-optic, cable-connected quadcopter drones that cannot be jammed because they are tethered to the operator, allowing real-time control and targeting up to about 15 kilometres away. The drones, which first appeared in Ukraine and are believed to be sourced from China or Iran, pose a new challenge for Israeli defenses and have already been involved in lethal and wounded Israeli troops, prompting the IDF to deploy nets and barriers while working to strengthen countermeasures. The weapon’s ease of use, low cost, and precision have raised concerns about a broader shift in drone warfare in the region.
