
UAE Seeks U.S. Wartime Financial Backstop Over Iran Tensions
The United Arab Emirates has pressed the United States to provide a wartime financial backstop, including a potential currency-swap line, in case the Iran conflict deepens and disrupts Gulf oil economies. UAE Central Bank Governor Khaled Balama discussed the idea in Washington with Treasury and Federal Reserve officials, noting the economy has so far avoided the worst effects but a lifeline could be needed if tensions persist.
