3D Fossil of 560-Million-Year-Old Charnia Discovered in Norwegian Sheep Field
A rare three-dimensional fossil of the Ediacaran organism Charnia, dating back 560 million years, was discovered in a sheep field in Finnmark, Norway. The find, the first confirmed Charnia specimen in Scandinavia, was revealed when rocks broke loose from a cliff and split open on impact. Published in Palaeontology, the discovery highlights the potential for new fossil sites in Europe and offers rare insights into the shape and preservation of early complex life.
