Historic floodgate releases planned at Mansfield Dam as Lake Travis surges

Due to heavy rain swelling Lake Travis toward its flood pool, the LCRA will open at least two Mansfield Dam floodgates on Saturday (first around 6 a.m., second around 1 p.m.), the first releases since 2019; a Tom Miller Dam gate will open Friday to clear the way for Mansfield releases, with fast downstream currents and higher water levels as flood storage is managed.

Mississippi River Flooding Causes Road Closures and Record Highs

The city of Dubuque is preparing to close off its entire flood system for the third time since 1973 as floodwaters continue to rise along the Mississippi River. Dubuque Public Works Director John Klostermann says they started closing floodgates once the river was predicted to rise over 14 feet. Closing the whole system would keep floodwaters from getting into the city. Meanwhile, flooding has also caused the closure of Highway 76 and the Black Hawk Bridge in Lansing.
