Toyota Makes a Splash in the Competitive Hydrogen Fuel Cell Truck Market
Toyota has entered the hydrogen fuel cell truck market with its Tri-Gen project, which utilizes agricultural biogas to produce renewable hydrogen for fueling its fuel cell vehicles and operating its Long Beach facility. The company plans to manufacture its hydrogen fuel cell powertrain kit in Kentucky and has partnered with Kenworth and Peterbilt to develop fuel cell trucks. Other automakers, such as Nikola, Hyundai, and Daimler, are also pursuing fuel cell truck technology. The availability of hydrogen fuel stations remains a challenge, but efforts are being made to expand the network, particularly in California.
