Peru Braces for a High-Stakes Runoff Between Fujimori and Sanchez
Peru heads to a June 7 presidential runoff between Keiko Fujimori and Roberto Sanchez after a chaotic first round marked by ballot delays, protests and a campaign-finance-disclosures probe against Sanchez (which he denies). Fujimori led with 17% (~2.88 million votes) to Sanchez’s 12% (~2.02 million), with Rafael López Aliaga close behind. Turnout abroad and a large share of abstentions/blank ballots could sway the result amid a decade of political upheaval and voter demand for order versus accountability.
