Texas dad fatally shoots would-be carjacker while protecting his eight-member family near Dallas
An illegal Mexican national, Jose Ramirez, 30, was identified as the suspect in an attempted carjacking outside Dallas. A Texas father defending his eight-member family in a vehicle fired more than 10 rounds at Ramirez after he allegedly crashed into two cars and attempted to steal vehicles at a gas station near Highway 66. Ramirez died at a hospital; the father is not expected to be charged, with police classifying the shooting as self-defense. Ramirez was not a Garland resident and his entry into the U.S. remains unclear. Surveillance video shows the family fleeing to safety as the confrontation unfolded. DHS/ICE were contacted for comment.
