"Uncovering Five Distinct Alzheimer's Variants Through Proteomics Analysis"

A study on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) proteomics in patients with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) has revealed five molecular subtypes with distinct genetic risk profiles. The study detected over 3,000 proteins in the CSF and identified subtypes related to neuronal hyperplasticity, innate immune activation, blood-brain barrier dysfunction, RNA dysregulation, and choroid plexus dysfunction. These subtypes were associated with specific genetic risk profiles and showed differences in clinical characteristics, cortical atrophy, and cell type-specific protein expression. The findings provide insights into the molecular processes associated with AD subtypes and highlight the importance of personalized treatments for AD.
