Rainfall Vibrations Wake Rice Seeds, Speed Germination
MIT researchers found that submerged rice seeds exposed to the acoustic vibrations produced by falling raindrops germinate up to about 37% faster than controls, with seeds near the surface showing the strongest response. The effect is linked to statoliths and gravitropism, and the findings were published in Scientific Reports.
