A suspect who allegedly assaulted a tow-truck driver on the eastbound 210 Freeway near Glendora led to a CHP pursuit that ended at a Covina gas station, where the suspect was shot and killed. The tow-truck driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition; no officers were injured. All eastbound 210 lanes were shut for hours and reopened around noon.

An off-duty LAPD officer, identified as Baldemar Sandoval, died in a traffic collision on the 210 Freeway in Glendora after crashing into the back of a semi-truck. The semi-truck had become disabled in the third lane after stopping for approximately five minutes due to CHP conducting a separate traffic collision investigation ahead of him. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. The remains of the officer were escorted to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office by fellow officers on Saturday morning. Part of the 210 Freeway remained closed through 8 a.m. Saturday morning.
