Personal Stem Cells Show Promise in Reversing Osteoporosis in a Small Trial
Autologous glycocalyx-edited mesenchymal stem cells were infused into 10 women with advanced osteoporosis in a Phase 1 trial and were well tolerated; fractures dropped dramatically (from 8 to 0.5 per year over two years post-infusion), bone biomarkers and imaging suggested osteoregenerative effects, especially in trabecular bone. The study, not randomized and small with limited diversity, signals potential for regenerative osteoporosis therapy but requires larger, controlled trials to verify safety and efficacy.
