Gordie Howe Bridge Set to Open to Traffic July 27 Under US-Canada Deal
The Gordie Howe International Bridge will open to traffic on July 27 under a Canada-Michigan agreement with U.S. government backing. The deal includes toll governance provisions, a 50% U.S. share of toll revenue with veto power on certain increases, and a 15-year economic development fund linked to bridge profits. Commercial shippers can use the Breakaway toll program at about $6.90 per axle. Leaders from Michigan and Canada welcomed the opening after lengthy negotiations and prior delays.
