South Carolina Governor Calls Special Session for Abortion Ban and Other Issues.
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has called the state legislature back for a special session to work on a bill that would ban most abortions as early as six weeks, along with other legislation. The bill, known as the "Fetal Heartbeat and Protection from Abortion Act," would ban most abortions after early cardiac activity can be detected in a fetus or embryo, with exceptions for fatal fetal anomalies, cases of rape, incest, or if the pregnant person is under the age of 17. A similar 6-week abortion ban was struck down by the state Supreme Court earlier this year.
